We are always grateful for new volunteers.
We have opportunities for everyone no matter how little time you may have to spare.
-
Call Coordinators:
- Involves being on the rota to take calls and match requests with volunteers.
-
Volunteer Drivers:
- Involves taking clients to appointments of one sort or another which may be in or outside of Whetstone. Where the journey is outside of Whetstone, with a few exceptions, then you will receive an agreed payment from the client to cover petrol plus they will pay any parking expenses.
-
Fundraisers:
- We have to raise the funds each year to finance the scheme and are looking for volunteers who can organise fund raising events or help attract sponsorship, deal with possible grant applications etc.
-
Service Volunteers:
- If you have a skill, talent or just some time to help then we welcome your help. Other than call coordinators, volunteers state what times they are normally available and what type of tasks they are prepared to undertake. When a request comes in, the Call Coordinator will work the register of volunteers and contact a suitable volunteer for the task. If that person is available and prepared to undertake the assignment, then it will be assigned to them. If they are not available or cannot take on the request, for whatever reason, then the Call Coordinator will move on to the next volunteer. So that volunteers are not committed to a fixed time, it can fit in with their normal day-to-day activities.
We require that all volunteers are taken on subject to an enhanced DBS check before they are allowed to carry out assignments. As a result volunteers working with clients must be at least 18 years old.
We also recommend that volunteers notify their insurance companies that they may be using their car for volunteering purposes, regardless of whether they are intending to act as a volunteer driver. This should not incur any cost or increase in premium but means that your motor insurance covers you driving to and from assignments.
