COMMBUS

The scheme is available to residents of Whetstone, amongst others, to provide a door-to-door dial a ride service to large shopping centres and towns for the elderly and disabled who have difficulty in using public transport. To use the scheme firstly requires completion of a short registration form to sign up to the service so that COMMBUS have all the information they need to start providing the service. All buses have wheelchair access and a tail lift and use MIDAS trained drivers and Escorts. There is a charge based on the destination with reduced rates for public transport pass holders. Once registered, COMMBUS can be contacted to book a seat on one of their services to Fosse Park, Blaby, Hinckley, Lutterworth, Beaumont Leys and Wigston in accordance with their published schedule.

Community Action Partnership (CAP) – Community Transport Social Car Scheme

The scheme is available to residents of Whetstone, amongst others, who have difficulty using public transport or have no access to public transport. To use the scheme you will first need to complete a short registration form so that the office has all the information they need to start providing the service. There is a charge based on the distance that helps towards the drivers fuel expenses, which is invoiced at the beginning of each month. Once registered, you need to give as much notice as possible before the date transport is required to enable time to find an available volunteer. The service can be used for a range of journeys including shopping, the local village shops, lunch clubs, to visit friends, health appointments, social events and daytime courses. In fact pretty much anywhere.

Community Companion Pet Support Scheme (CPSS)

The scheme is available to residents of Whetstone, amongst others, to sustain the relationship between companion animal and human through offering support in two main areas:

  • Providing elderly, physically disabled, vulnerable and housebound people with assistance to care for their companion animals in their own home.
  • Creating a foster support network (for the temporary care of owned companion animals or companion animals at Leicester Animal Aid seeking an alternative environment).
